Winter Berry

read the post
Paler skins in the winter doesn't mean we need to look like death, in fact its the perfect time to take a bit more time to look after our skin and freshen up the appearance with bright berry lips.
There's something about a berry colour stained lip that I just love. And it's even more smashing against winter skin that has gone paler over the colder months. My good friend Marissa is back on the blog, back for a bit of makeup play :)

I went through a major nude lip phase once, but I've since evolved, braved it up and loving bright pink and red shades available from both great high end makeup brands (like Chanel & YSL), mid-range brands (like MAC & NARS), but ESPECIALLY love the really affordable matte shades from the likes of Rimmel, L'oreal & Maybelline.

Keep your complexion natural and fresh with just a good moisturising base, light foundation or tinted moisturiser, and a bit of bronzer and blush for warmth on the cheeks. Keep the eyes natural with a neutral matte shade washed on the lids and a good flick of mascara on the upper and lower lashes. Slap on a good lippie, even a lipliner first if you can be bothered, and you're good to go with a beaut of a wintery look!

Products used for Winter Berry look:

Face & Cheeks:
Napoleon Auto Pilot Primer
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation
Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre powder
Chanel Bronzing makeup base used as blush

Eyes
Bobbi brown eyeshadow in "Naked" (a warm nude shade) seen in this palette
Benefit Bad Gal Lash

Lips
MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in "Process Magenta" a Mac Pro item, see swatch here!
Kate Moss for Rimmel lipstick in #106 (half off at Priceline if you live in Australia!)

Perfect for any occasion ladies! Have a happy weekend peeps :)

Manicures at home for Nail Colour that Lasts!

read the post
Wowsers excuse my wrinkly fingers... I have skinnier than normal fingers!
Like most girls, I love a good pampering. Lately, when it comes to getting nails done though, unless it was Shellac or Gel, I get disappointed with the chipping that occurs almost straight after getting manicures done in the salon these days. In Australia and NZ, manicures aren't as cost savvy as they are in the States or in Asia, so these days I like to DIY my manicures at home.

I know some of you ladies already do your nails this way (or even better!), but I thought to share my way. It's no rocket science, and it's really easy. I did have to tidy up a bit of the nail colour that travelled a bit to my cuticles (I only noticed it when I looked closely at the photos!), but you guys get the jist! Using OPI base and top coat is the best, and also make sure your nails and fingers are bone dry before colour application. My colour lasts AT LEAST 10 days without chipping or breakage. No chipping, no matter the nail polish brand! Love it! I'm typing away right now with the same nail polish...three weeks later.

Anyways, watch this in HD :)

Even though nail polishes like OPI, Essie and Butter, aren't cheap here either (compared to overseas), I'd rather spend $15-$20 on a bottle of colour, than $20-$30 on a manicure with a life span of 2 days. I'm kinda thinking that this should spur on a good ol' girly sleepover and a bit more shared pampering, don't you? Maybe...just MAYBE your guy mates can share in the fun? haha :)

Also, add some sparkle to your tips or to your nail beds/moons for a bit of DIY glam glam!
Happy Friday everyone!!

p.s. I am so in awe of vloggers / videographers/ stop motion makers and the like... editing is a big task! This was my first ever edit and the perfectionist in me couldn't stop going back and forth! The hubster only gave me high level instructions on how to use Vegas (the editing software I used) as well. Talk about a steep learning curve... but I secretly loved it :)

Splurge or Curb - Wedding Crystal Tulle head piece

read the post
While I didn't do a whimsical bohemian look for my own wedding day, I still loved researching and looking at all the choices that were out there for all wedding styles...and still do! However I was flabbergasted at the prices that some wedding headpieces can go for. There wasn't one wedding boutique I found that held a good quality, unique, crystal head piece/motif that fetched for less than AUD100. Some headpieces that I loved were at least AUD400, and I even saw some wedding veils fetch up to AUD1,000+ (now that's just daylight robbery)! So... I think unless you have a rather large wedding budget, or don't mind playing tug-of-war between spending the majority of your budget on your wedding accessories vs. your dress, I think a bit of DIY is a good route to take.

For all you whimsical, romantical, bohemian brides-to-be out there looking for some whimsy hair bling, here's a DIY alternative to spending hundreds of dollars. My version cost only AUD40 + a few hours of my own time :)

With the help of Tessuti Fabrics, I found a very similar crystal motif that I saw here, bought some peach-hued tulle, ordered some mini hair combs from Etsy and was good to go with some hand sewing activity on a rainy afternoon.

There are many ways of hand-sewing the crystal motif onto tulle, you just have to try not to thread it on too tight. And it doesn't have to be tulle either. You can easily adapt a crystal motif on top of beautiful lace or a satin ribbon. Mini haircombs was only my preference. Feel free to skip this step and simply tie on your masterpiece!
If it wasn't for my parents gifting me a beautiful Jenny Packham headpiece, I think I would have gone down the DIY route. Of course this post doesn't have to be inspiration limited to a Wedding, I hope this can inspire you to try some DIY for any special occasion. Or just some dress-up fun at home!

Stay tuned to see how this headpiece can be worn in different ways!

p.s. I did go down the DIY route for my Wedding bracelet, have you seen my earlier post here?

Polka Dots for Gents

read the post
Unless you've been living under a rock, you may have noticed that the male population around us are becoming more into their appearance, entering into the metro-sexual realm more than ever. The polka dot trend is always fun for girls**, but what about for the boys that want to look a bit more dapper?

Polka dot pocket squares

Guys are increasingly lifting their game in the style stakes, and although the retail options for guys aren't massively great in the southern hemisphere, I think a bit of DIY action can always help the situation.
Next time you go out with your male friend, how about a bit of matchy-matchy action? :)
**Did ya see WhoWhatWear's commentary?

p.s. All pocket squares in this post were DIY using Tessuti fabrics.
If you want to know where the blazers in this post were from:
