Silk Handkerchief Pasta

read the post
After quite a big night out with my workmates last night, it's safe to say I'm feeling a little slow and perhaps a bit shady today. In times like this, while I don't feel like doing much, I still find pottering around the kitchen, quite a therapeutic and relaxing thing.

I may or may not have mentioned before but I love Gennaro Contaldo, and it fills me up with warm fuzzies when I see him teamed up with Antonio Carluccio, cooking and travelling through Italy on the TV series; Two Greedy Italians. A couple weeks ago, Hubaloo Jase and I saw the Two Greedy Italians make a simple Silk Handkerchief Pasta mixed through with a hand pestled Basil pesto. It looked SO delish, and so simple... and best of all, all made by hand.

While I didn't have a massive appetite today, I was still determined to try this recipe out, and also was up for a mini Italian snack :) I have always find it daunting to make silky sheets of Italian Pasta, but this literally worked a treat...and it was my first attempt!

Gennaro also had a great tip for when you roll out the pasta. If you place the sheet of pasta at the edge of your table and lift the sheet up slightly, blow at it, and if your pasta sheet flutters, then it is silky and thin enough for cooking. If you find that rolling out a big sheet is proving too difficult to get the desired  fluttery thinness, don't worry, tear up the big sheet into the handkerchief size sheets and you'll find it easier to roll out the smaller squares.

I'd have to say this was the healthiest hangover meal I've had! The easiest recipe to remember as well: 250gm 00 flour, 1 egg + 3 egg yolks, 1 tablespoon of water maybe, and away you go. And since the pasta was fresh, boiling it up took mere minutes before flavouring and then devouring. While I only cooked up 6 handkerchief sheets, I will say the whole 250gm 00 flour recipe will safely serve 2 hungry individuals for dinner or 4 people for an entree or snack. As I didn't have enough energy to pestle up some Basil Pesto, I flavoured mine with Truffle Oil, halved grape tomatoes, a few little Basil Leaves, toasted pinenuts and a good grating of Parmesan Cheese.
You can flavour this pasta with Pesto, or perhaps a Carbonara type sauce, or toss with some pan-fried Mushrooms and salty cubes of pancetta... mmm delish.

Now that I've had a little boost of confidence from this small pasta making experience, I think investing in a pasta making machine is on the horizon ;)

Hope you're all enjoying the weekend!

Laser Cut Leather

read the post

^ Laser Cut Leather (faux) Top / Forever 21
^ Boyfriend jeans / Gap Japan
^ Leather & Wood Platform Sandal Clogs / Steve Madden (loving these and these too)
^ Leopard Clutch / Nine West

I saw a Facebook post the other day that proclaimed Leather is the new Denim. I'm not so sure about that. All I know is that even though Summer is around the corner in this neck of the woods, I'm not shying away from this typically Autumnal fabric (faux or real), especially when you can find laser cut versions like this top that will let in a bit of a breeze.

(tehehe look at those hairs on my arms)

Aside from the fact that I keep ripping bigger holes in these jeans every time I hurriedly put them on, I am loving them HEAPS. Whilst I love stretch denim, a non-stretch fit is great too... over the last few weeks these have fully molded to my bum (haha), and I am now on the hunt to find different shades of the same shape!

Rubber platform shoes are all the rage leading up to Summer, and this trend is making me fondly nostalgic of my platform wearing high school days. However this time around, I'm not loving the rubber version as much as the wooden or espadrille kind. Whilst these wooden platforms (some call these clogs) look crazy high, they are uber comfortable as the arch is at an acceptable angle, and the sturdiness of the platform and multiple straps makes them easy to walk in.

Happy hump day peeps! Thanks so much for reading!

Styling for fun

read the post
At first when I started this blog I didn't know where it would take me. Even though M.L.P started here in February this year, I had actually started blogging in 2008, posting the odd picture of makeup looks that I had done (on myself or friends), weddings that I had done hair and makeup for, a few beauty product reviews here and there, but then hit a massive road block 3/4 through 2008...then 2009 passed... 2010 flew by...2011 sailed on....and you get the picture, time just passed. It wasn't that I got massively lazy... I think I just became uninspired to blog and share anything, I didn't know what my voice was, and that kind of allowed the corporate career side to my life take first place. So whilst the years slipped by, I still remained active in the blogging/vlogging world, but more so on the reader side.

It's obvious that I love food, and anything beauty related. But if I'm alone walking along the street, I always observe what people wear, complimenting certain items in my head, suggesting other ways to style their clothes in my head, and generally playing dress up with people...in...my...head! Call me weird but it's like my own secret styling game. Same with when I shop, I look at a clothing item and imagine styling it with something from my current wardrobe, or flick through browsers online, analysing and pairing items together between browser tabs or flick through magazines pairing high end items from Vogue with high street items I see from Cosmo. So I guess naturally, since M.L.P speaks to my ideas on lifestyle, I would incorporate fashion, trends (classic and current), and my point of view on style here on the blog at some point.

I have long admired girls (and guys) that have the courage to literally put themselves out there, face on blog, documenting their style and using themselves to share styling ideas. When a friend suggested in the earlier stages of M.L.P that I post up outfit pics, I was like heeeeelll no! Who would even be interested in what I wear? Let alone how awkward I would feel in front of a camera attempting to pose. But after awhile, I had a light-bulb moment and thought to just try it out. Why not? this is my own space after all... and it would give me a chance to document how my own style evolves throughout the year(s), and then just maybe, someone would like bouncing style ideas around with me too? Maybe? :)

Anyways, I thought, just for fun, I would share some of the outtakes from the outfit posts I have shared so far. This is all for a laugh, so I hope it brightens up your day and shows you that although I like to pose like a fashionista, I'm not a stern serious fashionista... it is all for the fun of dress up, feeling good, expressing who you are and what works for you!

Happy hump day everyone and thanks so much for reading :)

Leopard & Graffiti

read the post
Oh yeh, not only do I love animals, I love a good animal print (faux of course!). Leopard is my fave and Zebra is a close second. One of my very first outfit posts here on M.L.P was leopard themed, and so you'll probably see me posting a lot of it here.
On the flip side, I love a good graphic print too and I'm always on the hunt for a piece of clothing that shows just the right amount of bold colours and also the right amount of urban cool. Until I find that though, I'll just stick to hanging out near cool Graffiti art walls :)

How dya like that beer bottle lurking in the background? haha!

I know what you're thinking...perhaps I should have worn a bralet? Though I'm not sure that's flattering for the silhouette either! This shirt allowed the right amount of breeze through, which helped on the freakishly warm weekend. I only *clicked* my bra strap was showing when I looked through the photos just now... but then again Jase didn't say anything when he took this photo, so maybe it's ok? Little girls look away, you're only allowed to dress like this when you're much older like me :)

*Sunglasses Burberry B4065 Men's (love these too - Animal print arms!)
*Top by Forever 21
*Jeans by Lippy (super old)
*Flats by Steve Madden
*Necklace by Recreational Studio (borrowed from Hubster Lee hehe)
*Square Bangle by Tiffany & Co
Hope your week is going well peeps, thanks for reading, and stay cool!

Food & Fashion - Colourblock

read the post
If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen some of my Sydney beachwater pics today. Oh the sun was so bright, the temperature was perfect with a slight breeze and the water was so clear, totally PERFECT for a Bondi beach to Coogee beach walk along the cliff face. Everyone young and old was out, dogs were off their leashes and everyone was in high spirits because we're feeling the seasons change already. Well...we're hopeful :)

Although my legs are now sufficiently feeling dead from 2+hours of the brisk walking up and downhill, I still feel the need to continue with the Food & Fashion series. And this week's inspo is dedicated to blocks of colour; bright and subdued shades. I have my eye on trying out Rachael's Red Velvet Kisses (from Made From Scratch -- check this blog out, it is Beee-U-ti-ful, brimming with inspiration and scrummy recipes), the S'mores pudding pops are making my mouth water and seeing that photo of the Nigiri Sushi we ate in Tokyo gives me SUCH pleasant memories!

I just bought myself the Bright Fuschia pony clutch below and can't wait to pair it up with blocks of subdued colours from my wardrobe. And I have my eye on the gorgeous caramel leather and black crepe maxi...just waiting for it to go further on sale! Bring on Spring/Summer I say!
