Beautiful Athens

When I was planning the hit list for our whirlwind European trip, Greece was always on the agenda, and more importantly Santorini. Athens was always be going to be our first pitstop and so it was worth at least a good look around the city. While I took upon some of my friend's advice to not spend too much time in Athens because there wasn't much to do, we were pleasantly surprised that we were able to fill in the day and night we had reserved, with shopping around and seeing the main sights. Aside from the graffiti, it's not a bad little city!
I grew up as a kid loving greek mythology, and so had high hopes at being reminded of all the culture and stories I used to love, but I was a little disappointed that the historical buildings and monuments bordering the city were a bit run down and not well maintained.  We took a tiki tour train around the city, which I totally recommend if you're visiting Athens in August (hello mid 30 to 40 degree heat!) and when we got to the Acropolis and walked up on QUITE the hot and windy summer's day, we did our best to navigate around the hoards of tourists and scaffolding without getting too frustrated.   Interestingly though, the photos I managed to capture avoided all the craziness that was there, and what we have left to put in an album are visuals of the beautiful pillars and greek charm on the mountain against the clear blue skies.
